In the early 1930s, Spalding signed Bobby Jones for the rights to produce clubs bearing his name. Spalding's 1932 Spring and Summer catalog included "Robt. T. Jones" signature clubs for the first time - offered in steel and pyratone shafts. Bobby Jones himself, however, only played hickory shafted clubs, which had quickly become obsolete since Jones' Grand Slam win a couple years prior. It turns out there was one way to get the popular Spalding Bobby Jones irons with hickory shafts - you could special order them.

According the The Clubmaker's Art (Second Edition) by Jeff Ellis, "there are only a handful of complete 'Spalding, Robt. T Jones Jr.' wood-shafted iron sets known." Ellis goes on to state that "[t]oday, the few remaining sets stand as prime collectibles."

The set offered here is a complete matched set of irons (Reg. No. H36797) - 1 iron through 9 iron, and well a an additional Calamity Jane putter that is also circa 1932 but the Calamity Jane putters had to be purchased separately in the early 1930s. Bobby Jones himself used hickory shafted irons during his playing career, and these clubs represent one of the only chances to own a set of Spalding hickory shafted Bobby Jones model irons. Very good condition.

This set of Bobby Jones irons originate from the collection of famed Bobby Jones biographer Sid Matthew.
