George Pietzcker 1912 Photo
of a 22 year old Chick Evans
George Pietzcker is widely regarded as the greatest golf photographer of
all-time. Examples of his classic work from the 1910's and 20's routinely
command sky high prices. Pietzcker rose to fame when he covered the 1913 U.S.
Open, where a young Francis Ouimet shocked the world and literally put U.S. golf
on the map overnight.
Offered here
is a rare original Pietzcker photo that even pre-dates 1913. This is an early
photograph of a young Chick Evans in 1912 - 2 years after the Chicago native won
the Western Open but well before the amateur famously won both the U.S. Amateur
and U.S. Open in 1916.
This original
1912 photo has the Pietzcker embossed stamp on front and "Geo. S. Pietzcker,
Golf Photographer" ink stamp on the reverse. The photo measures 7 5/8" x 4 7/8".
