Francis Ouimet Original Artwork and
Autograph
Very rarely do you find original
artwork that is so recognizable that just about every golf collector is familiar
with it. This original drawing of a young Francis Ouimet along with his equally
famous caddie, Eddie Lowery, is the central part of this vignette that also has
a wonderful drawing of an elder Ouimet in his R&A Captain's jacket. This exact
image was used to produce the now famous First Day Cover used to commemorate the
release of the Francis Ouimet U.S. Postage stamp that was issued on June 13,
1988 - 75 years to the day that he won his 1913 US Open. If that wasn't enough,
a mint FDC is included along with a spectacular Ouimet signature signed on Feb.
12, 1960. The signature alone is worth more than the reserve of this lot. Framed
to your liking, this would make a wonderful, truly one-of-a-kind display.
