Al Geiberger's Tournament-Used Hat
from 59 Round
The
"Mr. 59" Al Geiberger Collection
In this auction, we have the extreme pleasure of offering virtually the entire
collection of "Mr. 59" Al Geiberger. Ryan and Bob recently flew out to Palm
Springs to shoot Mr. Geiberger and his collection for the Pilot episode of a new
reality TV show based on Green Jacket Auctions. While we were there, Al
Geiberger decided that rather than continuing to keep his collection packed away
in a California storage facility, he felt that it was his duty to share his
memorabilia with the world. Nothing was off limits to Green Jacket
Auctions. We came home with some of the most historic pieces of golf memorabilia
that we have ever offered, including Al Geiberger's Wannamaker Trophy and his
actual golf clubs from the 59 Round. We hope that you enjoy viewing - and
bidding on - the "Mr. 59" Al Geiberger collection.
59
Round Hat
Ahh, the hat...
Offered here is Al
Geiberger's famous floppy bucket hat from his historic 59 Round. On that fateful
day in 1977 at the Danny Thomas Memphis Classic when the PGA Tour scoring record
was set, Al Geiberger wore this bucket hat bearing the Tournament's own name and
logo. The next day, Al Geiberger's iconic image wearing this hat and holding the
scorecard was plastered all over sports pages throughout the world.
Unfortunately, Geiberger's shirt, pants and shoes from that round (as well as
the ball, scorecard and golf bag!) were donated to the Hall of Fame in the late
1970s and subsequently lost - meaning that this is his only tournament-worn item
that still exists.
Al
Geiberger's 59 Round Hat is being auctioned by Al Geiberger himself, and comes
with a letter of authenticity from Al Geiberger.
