Ben Hogan
Ted Ray Cut Signature
w/ "Open Champion 1912" Notation
Presented here is a
rare autograph of 1912 Open Champion Ted Ray. Ted Ray was one of the best
golfers in the world in the early 20th Century. However, Americans may know him
best for a tournament he almost won. As immortalized by the Mark Frost book and
eventual Disney Movie The Greatest Game Ever Played, the heavily-favored
Ted Ray and Harry Vardon reached a playoff in the 1913 U.S. Open with teenage
unknown Francis Ouimet. Obviously, Ouimet won that tournament and firmly
established golf as a major sport with the American public for the first time.
Presented here is ta rare autograph
of the great Ted Ray. It is certainly one of the finest such autographs in
existence, as Ted Ray has added the notation "Open Champion 1912" below his
signature.
Certificate of Authenticity from Green Jacket Auctions (GJA).
