Impossibly Rare 1930 U.S. Amateur
Program
(Bobby Jones Wins Grand Slam)
And here it is – one of the
most coveted golf programs known to exist.
Offered here is one of the few known original programs from the
conclusion of Bobby Jones’ Grand Slam at the 1930 U.S. Amateur at famed
Merion Golf Club. All original programs from Bobby Jones' Major Championship
victories in 1930 are exceedingly rare, with each copy routinely selling for
in excess of $10,000. But make no mistake, the offered example is the most
desired, yet most seldom found, program from Jones' Grand Slam.
This program is being
auctioned today by a former PGA Professional and has never been seen
publicly until today. While such intense scarcity makes condition
discussions seem silly, the program does exhibit some water stains and a
crease down the middle. There is also some handwriting present on the cover,
which can likely be removed quite easily by a restoration expert. Despite
this, the cover of this 83 year old program still displays magnificently,
and its colors are certainly striking for a program of this age.
This is one of the rarest
pieces of Bobby Jones memorabilia that we have ever offered. And to further
add to its cache, also discovered inside this elusive program is an original
newspaper clipping from a local Philadelphia newspaper pertaining to this
historic tournament. Featured in this newspaper clipping is not only
eventual 1930 U.S. Amateur (and Grand Slam) winner Bobby Jones, but also
golf immortal Francis Quimet.
