Old Tom Morris & F.G. Tait
1899 Bromide Photograph
HOWARD SCHICKLER COLLECTION OF VINTAGE PHOTOGRAPHS
Original matte-surface 1899 bromide photograph of Scottish golfers Old Tom
Morris and Freddie Tait at St. Andrews during medal play. Mounted on board in
vintage gray overmat. An extremely rare vintage photograph of two legends of
golf, which measures 7 7/8 x 6 inches.
Old Tom Morris was Keeper of the Greens on the Old Course at St. Andrews and won
the British Open Championship four times. Lieutenant F. G. (Freddie) Tait was
Amateur Champion in 1896 and 1898. Seen teeing up during his last year of life
with Old Tom Morris standing to his right, Tait was tragically killed during the
Boer Wars in February of 1900. The Royal Medal has been presented since 1840 to
the player with the lowest score at the Autumn Meeting.
Condition: Print is mounted on board, unframed and overall in excellent
condition with very slight foxing near upper left corner. Original overmat has
light foxing and jagged edges. The overmat is permanently glued to the board
mount. An historic image in great condition for its age.
The offered photograph is being
consigned by the Howard Schickler Collection of Vintage Golf Photographs.
