HOWARD SCHICKLER COLLECTION OF VINTAGE PHOTOGRAPHS
Unique photograph album containing 26
vintage gelatin silver prints of the first PGA Champion Jim Barnes. Photographs

British born golfer Jim Barnes,
(1886-1986) was a leading figure in early American golf. He was born in
Cornwall, England and worked as a caddie and club-maker's apprentice before
moving to the United States and turning professional in 1906. Barnes won four
majors: the first two PGA Championships in 1916 and 1919, (there was no
tournament in 1917 or 1918 because of WWI), the 1921 U.S. Open, and the 1925
British Open Championship. His margin in his US Open win was nine strokes, a
record not broken until 2000 by Tiger Woods. Barnes was one of the most prolific
tournament winners of the first few seasons of the PGA Tour. In 1940, he was
inducted into the PGA's inaugural Hall of Fame, an honor followed by his
induction into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1989. This rare and original album
showcases Barnes' golfing techniques during the early years of his career and
includes photographs of his swing, grip, chipping and putting techniques and
shows him playing a round of golf on an unknown course.
