Ben Hogan
1931 Bobby Jones US Amateur Wire Photo
As you've no doubt seen by now, this Winter Golf
Auction by Green Jacket Auctions represents one of the greatest sales of golf
photographs in history. From Old Tom Morris & the origins of professional golf
to Bobby Jones & the founding of Augusta National, many of the offered
photographs are among the finest such examples in the hobby.
Offered here is an original 1931 Wire
Photo from the U.S. Amateur. Despite being the defending Champion, Jones
famously retired after his Grand Slam season in 1930. Therefore, he refused to
defend his title and was merely a spectator at the 1931 U.S. Amateur, which was
held at Beverly Country Club in Chicago.
In this photograph, the legendary
Jones can be seen watching the semifinals of the 1931 U.S. Amateur. It is
important to note that the semifinals included Jones' friend and eventual 1931
Amateur Champ Francis Ouimet.
This large early wire photo measures
8"x10" and is in very good condition.
