As you've no doubt seen by now, this Winter Golf
Auction by Green Jacket Auctions represents one of the greatest sales of golf
photographs in history. From Old Tom Morris & the origins of professional golf
to Bobby Jones & the founding of Augusta National, many of the offered
photographs are among the finest such examples in the hobby.
Without question, this is one of our
new favorite golf images. This an original 1930 photograph of Bobby Jones
competing in the British Amateur, which he would go on to win on his way to
capturing the Grand Slam. In this photo, Bobby Jones leaps across St. Andrews'
famous Swilcan Burn DURING his round at the 1930 British Amateur. Why the
famously frail Jones felt the need to leap across the burn is beyond us, and we
can't help but shutter at the thought of what a failed landing would've done to
his chances of completing the Grand Slam. Thankfully, Bobby must've nailed that
landing, as he went on to win the 1930 British Amateur and a couple months later
the Grand Slam too!
The condition of this large 8"x10"
photograph is quite nice with note to corner chip at the upper left and a small
crease on the lower left corner. Reverse has full paper caption and stamps from
Acme and NEA.
