1934 Masters Tournament

Walter Hagen Tees Off Wire Photo

As you've no doubt seen by now, this Winter Golf Auction by Green Jacket Auctions represents one of the greatest sales of golf photographs in history. From Old Tom Morris & the origins of professional golf to Bobby Jones & the founding of Augusta National, many of the offered photographs are among the finest such examples in the hobby.

Offered here is a rare original photograph from the first-ever Masters Tournament. In this wide shot of the course, Walter Hagen can be seen teeing off on Augusta National's 8th hole during Saturday's 3rd Round. Keep in mind that the 8th hole in 1934 is the 17th hole today. The 1934 Augusta National Invitation Tournament is the only "Masters Tournament" to be competed with the reversed hole configuration. This photograph is one of the few known photos that provide us with an early look at the Augusta National course in 1934 - and look how rough and incomplete it looks!

This large 8"x10" photo is in exceptional condition. Reverse has a full paper caption and stamps from Acme and NEA. Dated March 25, 1934.
