Ben Hogan
1934 Bobby Jones & Walter Hagen
Drive of the First Tee
at First Masters Tournament Photo
As you've no doubt seen by now, this Winter Golf
Auction by Green Jacket Auctions represents one of the greatest sales of golf
photographs in history. From Old Tom Morris & the origins of professional golf
to Bobby Jones & the founding of Augusta National, many of the offered
photographs are among the finest such examples in the hobby.
For you Masters collectors,
here is the drive that started it all! Many of you can likely recount dozens of
tales from early Masters Tournaments, but have you ever seen a photo of Bobby
Jones actually playing in the first Masters? Well here is Bobby Jones kicking
off the inaugural Masters Tournament in 1934, with Walter Hagen admiring Bobby's
drive and waiting for his turn. Why this image isn't one of the most famous
images in all of golf is lost on us, as it's arguably the most historically
significant golf image of the 20th century.
This is the only example we have ever
had the pleasure to offer.
This original 7"x9" photograph
appears near mint but it has a tiny crease at the top border and some extremely
mild crazing. Reverse has a full paper caption and stamps from Acme and NEA.
