1922 Glenna Collett
Women's Amateur Champion Wire Photo
As you've no doubt seen by now, this Winter Golf
Auction by Green Jacket Auctions represents one of the greatest sales of golf
photographs in history. From Old Tom Morris & the origins of professional golf
to Bobby Jones & the founding of Augusta National, many of the offered
photographs are among the finest such examples in the hobby.
Offered here is an original 1922
photograph of one of the greatest women golfers of all-time - Glenna Collett
(later Collett-Vare). In the pre-professional era before the U.S. Women's Open
was formed, the U.S. Women's Amateur was the biggest ladies tournament in the
world - and Collett won it an astonishing six times.
This original photograph is from
shortly after Miss Collett won her Amateur title at the 1922 U.S. Women's
Amateur. The condition of this original 6 1/5" x 8 1/2" photograph is quite
nice. Reverse has a full paper caption and stamps from International News and
NEA.
