Original 1939 Byron Nelson
U.S. Open Photo with Trophy
Offered is an original 1939 wire photograph from the 1939 U.S. Open. At the end
of 72 holes, Byron Nelson, Craig Wood and Denny Shute were all tied for the
lead, so an 18 hole playoff was required. This photograph was taken after the
4th round showing all 3 golfers with their hands on the U.S. Open trophy, which
they would play for the following day. Byron Nelson would go on to win the 1939
U.S. Open in a playoff. You golf collectors may also like the fact that Byron
Nelson has his 1939 U.S. Open contestant's badge secured to his white double
breasted jacket.
