Infamous 1921 Bobby Jones

        This is an original photograph taken just before a teenage Bobby Jones was about to set sail for Europe and the most infamous tournament of Bobby Jones' career. With a promising future ahead of him, but still 2 years before his first Major Championship victory, the young Bobby Jones did the unthinkable and picked up his ball on the 11th green during the 3rd Round of the 1921 British Amateur. Jones would later call this incident "the most inglorious failure of my golfing life."

        Offered here is a rare original early 1921 photograph of a 19 year old Bobby Jones with the original wire tag announcing Jones' impending sale to the infamous 1921 British Amateur. This is an image we've never seen before, and it's spectacular.

        This 6 1/2" x 8 1/2" wire photograph is in very good condition. The original wire service tag on back is partially missing.
