Circa 1900 Johnnie Walker
Metal Die-Cut Advertisement
In this auction, we are pleased to bring you some of the finest pieces of golf
advertisements in the world. This collection was painstakingly assembled by our
consignor over the past 20+ years, and many of them represent the finest
examples in the hobby.
Offered here is a circa 1900 metal die-cut calendar advertisement for Johnnie
Walker whisky. According to a Johnnie Walker expert that we contacted, this
early golf advertisement was produced "prior to 1909", which was determined
based on the company name located at the bottom of this piece.
This approximately 110 year old
tinplate advertising calendar measures 8" x 14". Quite impressively, this rare
calendar even comes with its original paper date and month inserts, which are
seldom seen. An example of this piece is depicted on page 53 of the 1994 book
Miller's Golf Memorabilia, which
describes this "perpetual calendar" as "one of the most sought after calendars."
Another one of these rare advertising pieces can be found on the cover of
the current (March 2014) Golf Collectors Society Bulletin.
