Scarce Huge 1920's Gene Sarazen

Wilson Advertising Stand-Up

In this auction, we are pleased to bring you some of the finest pieces of golf advertisements in the world. This collection was painstakingly assembled by our consignor over the past 20+ years, and many of them represent the finest examples in the hobby.

Offered here is an exceedingly rare original store stand-up advertisement of Gene Sarazen. This stand-up was was an advertisement for Wilson-Western Sporting Goods Co., the predecessor company to the company we know today as Wilson Sporting Goods. The "Wilson-Western" name was used from 1925 to 1930, so we can accurately date this piece to the later half of the 1920's.

The fact that this delicate cardboard stand-up still exists is extraordinary. We would be very surprised if there's another example anywhere in the world. This piece comes directly from one of the largest golf advertising collections in the world.

This piece is huge - it measures 51 1/2 tall and 36" wide. It comes in 2 separate pieces. There is some discoloration in places, as well as some water damage at the edges. But overall, this 85+ year old piece is extraordinary.
