Significant Circa 1900 "The Standard"
Bramble Golf Ball Display
Offered here is an impossible rare gutta percha bramble advertising piece from
the late 1800's or early 1900's. This large 6 1/2" diameter "The Standard"
bramble golf ball was supposedly originally displayed at the Simpson brothers'
golf shop in Carnoustie over 100 years ago.
This huge golf ball advertising piece is exceptional condition, and will
certainly be a cornerstone item for a golf ball collector.
***Make sure you check out the 3rd photo, where we've photographed the
advertising piece alongside an actual golf ball in order to give you a better
idea of how impressively large this piece is.
***A big thanks to
one of our loyal followers, who within seven hours of our auction launch, saw
this Lot and sent us a 1906 image of the front of the Simpson golf shop in
Carnoustie, which shows a large golf ball advertising piece in the store window.
Granted, this 1906 photo appears to show a different ball, but it's highly
illustrative of how these early advertising balls were used, as well as one
specifically on display in Carnoustie.
