Chick Harbert's Custom Made
Diamond and Ruby Encrusted Golf Brooch
This is an impressive piece of custom jewelry made for 1954 PGA Champion Chick
Harbert and presented to his lovely wife Jeanne.
The platinum brooch is enhanced with
sixty-five (65) round-shaped diamonds (full-single cut), seven (7) square and
specially shaped rubies (designed as a golf tee), and two (2) rectangular-shaped
black onyx designed as golf grips. The golf ball holds 21 diamonds and the two
clubs hold 44 diamonds.
Total weight of the diamonds, which
measure between 1.10 and 2.10 mm is 1.39 carat with a color range of F-G. The
average clarity is VS1-SI1 and the match is Very Good. They are prong set. The
brooch is 2 1/2 inches in length and 2 inches wide. Total weight of the Platinum
brooch is 7.1 dwt and is in great condition.
This is the perfect item to get
yourself out of the doghouse with your wife because of your golf collecting
obsession. This one is for her. It makes those 10k invoices from Green Jacket
Auctions a little more bearable. Plus it's like adding to your own collection
although she will be the gatekeeper of this one.
The brooch comes from Chick Harbert's
daughter and comes with a lovely note from her. When she took the pin in for an
appraisal recently, the jeweler made her an offer of several thousand dollars on
the spot. However, she would like it to go to a golf collector and someone who
could appreciate it as much as her father and mother did. The reserve is set at
the amount of the jeweler's offer. The estimated retail value of this custom
piece is $12,000-$15,000.
