The Muses Threnodie
by Henry Adamson
(1774)
Book: The Muses
Threnodie
by
Henry Adamson
Year/Edition: Published in 1774
Condition:
For a 240 year old book, we'd say this example is in Very Good
condition, and grades higher than other copies we've seen.
Notes:
Originally published in 1638, Adamson's Muses Threnodie was
the first book to contain a reference to the game of golf,
which ocurred in two lines of a poem that reads "and yee, my
clubs, you must no more prepare/to make your bals flee
whistling in the aire." This 2nd edition, published 136
later in 1774, adds a footnote to those two lines and a
reference to playing golf at Perth, where Adamson was born.
A key book for any
serious golf book collection. Listed in Gilchrist's Guide
to Golf Collectibles at $3,500.
