Ben Hogan
1936 Masters Tournament
Clubhouse Badge
Though hardly a household name with casual golfers, Horton Smith holds special
place in the hearts of golf collectors. Unfortunately, pieces of memorabilia
from Horton Smith's 2 Masters Tournament victories are scarce. Amazingly, items
from the 1936 Masters Tournament are even harder to find (though we're
admittedly splitting hairs here, as memorabilia from the Inaugural Masters in
1934 could never be described as common).
Offered here is an original 1936
Masters Tournament player-issued Clubhouse Badge. Only two of these 1936 Masters
Clubhouse badges have ever been found - and Augusta National Golf Club does not
even have one in its vast collection. The only other one known, Jock
Hutchison's, was recently on display at the World Golf Hall of Fame.
This badge is brand new to the golf
collecting market. It was issued to 1936 Masters participant Alvin Krueger, and
served as Krueger's wife's credentials for the week of the 3rd Masters
Tournament. This piece, along with a handful of Krueger's other 1936 memorabilia
elsewhere in this auction, has been passed down in Krueger's family ever since
1936 and is being auctioned by his nephew.
