Vintage Oil Painting
of Freddie Tait
Original Oil on Canvas by Thomas Wolfe. This painting is a copy of the famous 1901 oil of Freddie Tait by John Henry Lorimer, which is owned by the Royal & Ancient. The two-time British Amateur champion Tait was killed in 1900 during the Boer War. When he was found on the battlefield, there was a letter from home in his pocket with a paw mark of his terrier named "Nails", who is depicted in the portrait.
This original oil on canvas is stretched over an 8” x 10” wood frame, mounted in a 3” deep x 18” tall x 16” wide wood frame. We don't know when Wolfe painted this version, though it certainly appears several decades old. The painting is in very good condition.
