Circa 1880
Old Tom Morris Short Spoon

A fine example of the work of Old Tom Morris of St. Andrews, circa 1880. Bearing a beech wood head, this seldom used short spoon displays an unusually fine and delicate scare and neck, much like earlier examples of Morris’ work dating some 20 years prior.  The shaft also bears the T. MORRIS stamp, and the grip is a fine sheepskin. As short spoons were employed to loft the ball quickly, they were subject to steep downward swings that often did significant damage to the club heads and shafts. This club has survived in remarkably fine original condition with few, if any, signs of wear or distress, making this club quite scarce and collectible.
