Handmade Flicker Book
of J.H. Taylor
from 1908 Kinora Reel
Long before the
invention of movies, the very first golf footage came from Kinora Reels. In the
years before the First World War, the Kinora was the most popular medium for
viewing home movies in Great Britain and Ireland. The Kinora worked very like an
advanced flip book or Rolodex, using images which were conventional monochrome
photographic prints fixed to strong, flexible cards attached to a circular core.
Very few original
golf Kinora reels are known to still exist, with almost all owned by the
Heritage Department of the Royal & Ancient Golf Club. The only examples we've
encountered in a private collection are the James Braid and George Duncan reels
offered for sale elsewhere in this auction.
Kinora reels are
unquestionably rare, but the offered items are unique.
Offered here is a custom
handmade flipbook of J.H. Ray. This large
flipbook was made from the actual slides of an original circa 1908
Kinora reel.
Almost everyone reading this can recite various facts about Braid, but
have you ever actually seen himm swing a golf club? Well now is your
chance...
This original
circa 1908 handmade flipbook of J.H. Taylor measures 4
1/4" x 1/2", and is in very good condition.
