Jack Nicklaus and Lee Trevino Signed
Merion Golf Club Scorecard
Here
is an authentic Merion Golf Club scorecard that has been nicely
autographed by greats Jack Nicklaus and Lee Trevino. The U.S. Open in 1971 at Merion resulted in another playoff, this time between Jack Nicklaus and Lee Trevino,
arguably the top two players in the world at the time. Both had missed
putts on the 72nd hole to win on Sunday, Trevino for par and Nicklaus
for birdie. In the Monday playoff, Nicklaus had trouble early in the
bunkers and was behind the rest of the round. Trevino, the 1968
champion, won by three strokes for his second U.S. Open title. It was
the second of four times that Nicklaus was a runner-up to Trevino at a
major championship. This was also
the scene of Trevino's "rubber snake stunt" Where he pulled out a
rubber snake prior to the start of the 18 hole playoff. Ever the kidder
Trevino wanted to lighten the mood and drew huge laughs including from
Nicklaus who was said later to be not so amused. Buy your own rubber snake and frame it with this great scorecard.
