1920 Open Champion George Duncan
Autographed Album Page with Great Quote
Oft referred to as “the pro’s pro” because of his much sought-after professional teaching skills and swing analysis, George Duncan was an accomplished instructor, course designer and player for the duration of his early 1900’s career. His victory at the 1920 Open at Royal Cinque Ports is hailed to this day as one of the greatest comebacks in Open Championship history. Duncan rebounded from opening 80s in his first two rounds to shoot 71-72 and overcome a 13-shot deficit. He ultimately won by a two-stroke margin, and still stands as the last player to shoot 80 and then comeback to win an Open title.
Here we have a very unique example of George Duncan memorabilia … an album page signed in pencil by Duncan. The page contains a fantastic Portuguese Proverb that reads "Never mention rope in a house where a man's been hung". The rarity of Duncan’s autograph cannot be overstated, as he passed away in 1964.
