Ping Redwood City A5 Putter
Karsten Solheim made his Redwood City putters in the family garage in the middle to late 1950’s. 1958 is the year we hear most often as the year the first putter was produced for sale. These “musical putters”, as they were referred to, were heel and toe weighted with a thin shell in the middle so that when the ball was struck a loud “ping” was heard, thus the name PING. It’s not known how many putters were actually produced, but we do know a very limited number have surfaced over the years. These rare putters are finding their way into collections and will continue to go up in value as supply goes down.
Offered at auction here is the elusive XA Redwood City Model Ping Putter. The putter grip is an Informer grip.
