1940 Women's Southern Golf Association
Semi-Final Medal
In 1911, Mrs. George Harrington of Eastlake Country Club in Atlanta, GA and Mrs. Willard Parker Sullivan of Birmingham, AL, organized the first championship at Eastlake Country Club in Atlanta. The WSGA Championship has since been an annual event except for the war years of 1918 and 19421945. The area of membership as voted in 1928 still comprises the 15 Southern States.
Through the years, many players in WSGA Amateur Championships have been named by the USGA as Curtis Cup Team members and Captains. Many players have also moved on to the professional ranks. A few of those legendary players include Betty Jameson, Dorothy Kirby and Louise Suggs. Presented here is a Bronze Semi-Final Medal from a 1940 WSGA Tournament held at River Crest C.C. Fort Worth, TX.
