Bobby Jones Letter with Historic Golf Content
regarding Design of Augusta National & Stewart Maiden
Golf historians are going to love the information contained in this original 1964 letter from Bobby Jones to Ross Goodner of the New York Times. Among the gems contained in this letter:
"Stewart [Maiden] never gave me a formal lesson."...[H]e definitely did not develop my game from the ground up, because I never even consulted with him about it until I had been playing seven or eight years."
"Perry Maxwell designed new greens for us in Augusta for holes #10 and 7. It may be that he did the new green of #16, but my present collection is that Robert Trent Jones did this one.
Bobby Jones goes on to discuss the current whereabouts of his old East Lake golfing pals Perry Adair and Watts Gunn.
