1880s Robert White of St Andrews Iron
Offered here is a circa 1880s lofter iron by Robert White of St Andrews. This broad and large lofter blade has very bold marks and features a pre-1890s square joint. Robert White was a famous St Andrews cleek maker who began supplying other club makers like Tom Morris before making his own clubs. He famously taught both Tom Stewart and Robert Condie, who both went onto fame outside of his shop. Where emigrated to the United States in 1894.
The offered club has an original shaft marked John Wisden & Co., which was a London retail which started in 1874.
