Scarce 1933 Augusta National
"Guest Card"
Offered here is one of the most iconic pieces of early Augusta National memorabilia. You've likely heard that Augusta
National Golf Club struggled to find members when it was founded, as the
country was in the throes of the Great Depression. Well, here is an original
"Guest Card" that was presented to a prospective Augusta National member.
With this card - bearing a rare full-signature Robert T. Jones, Jr, stamp (the only time such a Bobby Jones stamp is ever known to have been used) - a prospective member was entitled to come visit and play Augusta National
(along with 3 guests) for $4 per day between November 20, 1933 and May 20,
1934. Yes, $4 per day to play Augusta National! Historical Note: Augusta National first opened in 1933 and the first
Masters Tournament was held in March 1934.
This is one of only 2 original Augusta National Guest Cards
that are known to exist - and this is the earlier of the two examples, and the
only one bearing the Bobby Jones stamp (the only example of anything known to have this Bobby Jones stamp). Card measures 2 1/2" x 3 1/2".
