in St. Andrews Bunkers

Next to Old Tom Morris, no name is more synonymous with St Andrews Golf than the Auchterlonie family. Boasting one British Open Champion, one U.S. Open Champion and two honorary professionals to the R&A, the family’s name still resonates to this day due to the shop that bears their name situated just yards away from the home hole of the legendary Old Course at St. Andrews.

Offered here are some of our favorite photogtaphs from the 1800s. These photographs date to 1889. The first photo depicts Tom Auchterlonie hitting out of a bunker at St. Andrews. The second photo shows Tom's older brother (famed clubmaker) David Auctherlonie hitting out of Hell Bunker at St. Andrews. This photo is pictured on page 9 of the famous book British Golf Links by Horace Hutchinson. Both of these photos measure 5 1/2" x 8".

The reverse of this album page shows the opening day of Braids Hill Golf Course in Edinburgh in 1889 and pictures Amel Ross driving the ball. It measures 5 3/8" x 8".
