My Golfing Life by Sandy Herd
Alexander "Sandy" Herd was a Scottish professional golfer from St. Andrews. Herd won the 1902 Open Championship at Hoylake, but not easily, as he famously limped in with a final round 81 and narrowly held off legends Harry Vardon and James Braid. Sandy Herd is also noted for being the first Open Champion to use the Haskell rubber-cored ball and for holding the 89-year distinction (1920-2009) of being the oldest runner-up at the Open Championship. Tom Watson captured that distinction in 2009. This is a 1923 First London Edition of Herd’s autobiography, My Golfing Life. The offered copy is in good condition with slight cover wear and a tight binding. It is valued within Gilchrist’s Guide to Golf Collectibles at $425.
