Rare Royal Doulton
Series Ware Candlestick

Rare Royal Doulton Series Ware candlestick.  6” H.  4 ½” diameter at base; 3 ½” at top rim.  Per Sprung’s book, Decorative Golf Collectibles, the Series Ware pieces were based on the style of Charles Crombie (a popular artist at the time who did the Perrier golf illustrations) and were made from 1911- 1932.  Most have a proverb on them – this piece has “Promise Little and Do Much”.  A 9” version of this candlestick, with the same proverb, is shown in the Sprung book. Fully marked on the bottom, including a registration number. Series Ware pieces are very susceptible to crazing, but this piece has very little.  A VERY thin, tight hairline can be seen on the underside of the base.  No chips.  Series Ware candlesticks are difficult to find in any condition and are highly desirable pieces that show nicely.
