1910 US Amateur Contestants Badge
(Earliest Known)

Offered is what is believed to be the earliest known contestant badge from a U.S. Amateur. This badge from the 1910 US Amateur is listed (and a photo is shown) in GilChrist's Guide to Golf Collectibles as the earliest existing U.S. Amateur contestant badge - a full decade before another example is known. The 1910 US Amateur was held at The Country Club at Brookline. The style of this badge is unique, as the USGA's now-familiar contestant badge style had not yet been adopted. William Fownes defeated Warren Wood at the 1910 U.S. Amateur. This was the first-ever men's Major Championship held at The Country Club - a full 3 years before Brookline was the site of Ouimet's historic victory.
