Made for Mueller Golf Cards

In 1992, one of the most impressive golf card sets was produced. Featuring 30 golfers, the set was titled "Golf's Greatest Card Set", but is universally known today as the "Mueller" card set. Rather than use photographs, the set was based on 30 paintings by legendary artist Bart Forbes.

Offered here is the original painting of Babe Zaharias by Bart Forbes that was used to make the Mueller golf card set in the 1992. Since we were already so familiar with this iconic image of Zaharias, we are truly overwhelmed to have the opportunity to offer the original Babe Zaharias painting upon which the golf card was based. The painting itself measures 12 1/2" x 19 1/4" and has been framed to 19" x 26". Of the 30 paintings produced for the Mueller set, only 4 of those original 30 paintings from the series were made in this large size. It is our understanding that after 4 of these large paintings were produced (including the Ben Hogan painting, also offered in this auction), the remaining 26 paintings were painted roughly half this size.
