Striking Face Sunday Stick (Walking Stick)

In the late 1800’s and early 1900’s, golf themed walking sticks were extremely popular.  These walking sticks were also called Sunday sticks or Sabbath sticks, and they were supposedly the golf enthusiasts' answer to the Church of Scotland discouraging golf on Sundays.  So essentially, these Sabbath sticks were golf clubs that were disguised as walking sticks, with the club head comfortably fitting in the palm of the golfer's hand, until feeling unobserved, the stick was reversed and a few strokes were played.     

This is a beautifully crafted, handmade Walking Stick with a hallmarked face and sterling "lead weight".  This copper tipped example is circa 1900 and is stamped “W. Garbutt” on its crown.
