Royal Doulton 1937 Ryder Cup Souvenir Tea Set
This is a extraordinary 1937 Ryder Cup Souvenir Porcelain Tea Set
made by Royal Doulton. This 3-piece set
includes a teapot, sugar bowl and creamer and displays brilliantly. It is not known how many, if any, other have
actually survived, let alone in this exceptional condition. Our consignor, a prominent ceramics/pottery collector, has never seen another set or even an individual piece. The Doulton maker’s
mark and dated/copyright of 1936 can be seen on the bottom of each piece.
For you ceramics collectors, this is an opportunity to augment your
collection with an extremely rare set of historical significance and indisputable
provenance.
With regard to the event that this set commemorates, the 1937 Ryder Cup was
contested at Southport and Ainsdale Golf Club in England and was won by the
United States team. Due to the advent of
WWII, this would prove to be the last Ryder Cup for a full decade.
