1938 Masters Employee Badge
In
the first 4 years of its existence, the Masters Tournament was named The Augusta National
Invitation Tournament. This was all changed in 1938 when the name was officially changed
to the "Masters’ Tournament" (yes, with an apostrophe!). Even though
grammatically correct, the apostrophe was only used in the title for 4 years and
was dropped starting with the 1942 tournament. Presented here is one of the
first items ever made by Augusta National featuring the name “Masters’
Tournament.” This 1938 Masters Employee Badge is also remarkable in that it
still contains the original name tag of the employee, “George Rhodes Jr.” This
very early badge measures 1 1/2" x 2 1/4".
