This is a circa early 1860s Hand Hammered Gutta Percha golf ball. This ball contains rather crude hand-hammering, therefore we can date it to the early 1860s or so. Hand hammered gutta perchas dominated the golf scene in the 1860s and into the 1870s. Then, in 1871, Willie Dunn pioneered a method of using a machine/press to line cut each gutty to save time (and money).
