In its illustrious history, only two photographs have ever been taken of the entire Masters Tournament field. As most collectors know, the first was at the 1935 Masters, which is considered one of the foremost pieces of Masters memorabilia. The 2nd field photograph occurred at the 1949 Masters Tournament. That photograph was taken in honor of Ben Hogan. 

Ben Hogan was at home recovering from his near-fatal February 2, 1949 car accident when the 1949 Masters Tournament was underway. At that point, it was unclear as to whether Hogan would ever lift a golf club again. The resulting 1949 Masters Tournament group photo was then sent to Hogan (along with a silver Humidor Trophy) as a "Get Well" gift. That original "Get Well" 1949 Masters photograph currently resides in the Ben Hogan Museum in Dubln, TX (and the Humidor is in the Ben Hogan Room at the USGA Museum).

Other than Hogan's personal copy, we have only located two other 1st generation original 1949 Masters Tournament "Get Well" photographs, including the one offered in this auction. We don't know how many were produced, but it must've been an extremely small quantity. 

This original 1949 Masters field photograph is matted with a list of all people present for the photo, as well as the inscription: "The silver humidor which Bowman, Tom and "Leven" have in their care carries the following inscription: 'To our friend Ben Hogan, in affectionate appreciation of what you have meant to us and to the Masters Tournament'"

This is an 8x10 photo that is matted to 13 1/2" x 13 1/2".
