Much to the frustration of collectors, the collecting market is devoid of quality memorabilia from Arnold Palmer. It's not that the items don't exist, it's just that Arnold Palmer kept everything for himself. Arnold Palmer's famous "Barn" in Latrobe contains almost every golf club, golf bag, trophy, and tournament gift that he received during his entire career. Because of this, actual tournament-used memorabilia of Arnie's will routinely sell for 3x as much as an identical item from Jack Nicklaus. Of course, Mr. Palmer's extreme popularity likely has something to do with it as well.

Offered here is the first tournament-used Arnold Palmer golf bag that we have ever offered. And not just any tournament-used bag, this bag is believed to have been used in the 1984 Masters Tournament. (Check out the photo of Arnie standing next to what appears to be this bag at the '84 Masters). Though Arnie's memorabilia rarely leaves the Barn, he apparently made an exception for a 1992 American Cancer Society Charity Auction. 

This bag comes with unimprovable provenance - a letter from Arnold Palmer on Arnold Palmer Enterprises letterhead, and a letter from his longtime Assistant and right hand man, Doc Griffin. In Arnie's letter, he states that this bag "was chosen from my collection of bags that I used in tournament competition during the 1960's." [Note: while it would be great if this bag was used in the 1960s, we simply believe he was mistaken on the date, and the photo of Arnie with the bag seems to prove us right]. In Doc Giffin's letter, he refers to "one of Arnold Palmer's old golf bags," and "[y]ou will see that it has truly gone through the Tour wars."

The bag is in very good condition with the "Palmer" script names in excellent condition, and with wonderful coloring. There is a tear on the front pocket on the bag. Our consignor got Arnold Palmer to add a large signature on the bag in gold paint pen. He also has a photo of himself posing with Arnold Palmer and this bag, though only the top couple inches of the bag can be seen in the photo. A copy can be supplied to the high bidder, if desired.
