Golf flags are among the most sought-after modern golf collectibles, but the Holy Grail of golf flags isn't really a golf flag at all - it's the Merion Wicker Basket Standard. Merion Golf Club famously goes to extreme measures to make sure that its wicker standards never leave the club. In our 11 year history, this is the only original Merion Wicker Standard that we’ve ever located (this same Merion wicker standard previously sold in our April 2013 Auction).

This vintage Merion Wicker Basket dates to approximately the 1960s or 70s, if not earlier. Pictured below, for illustrative purposes, is a photo of a very similar Merion Wicker Basket and flagstick at the 1971 U.S. Open. To our knowledge, this is the only original Merion Wicker Basket has ever been offered publicly for sale.

This original Merion Wicker Basket on original flagstick stands 7 1/2' feet tall, and the basket itself measures 14 inches.
