Offered here is a circa 1870s iron by John
Gray of Prestwick. “John Gray (1824-1903) was one of the first iron makers, or
cleekmakers as they came to be called, to mark his work.” The Clubmaker’s Art
(2nd Ed.) by Jeffery B. Ellis, p. 125.
This club has a bold "Jn. Gray"
cleek mark. It has a 4" blade with parallel top and bottom, a thick 4
1/2" hosel with a very large russet grip and underlisting. 40 1/4".
