Original Frank Reynolds Golf Illustration - "Defeated Player in Club Final."

Frank Reynolds (1876 - April 1953). In 1906 he began contributing to Punch Magazine and was regularly published within its pages during World War I. He was well known for his many illustrations in several books byCharles Dickens, including David Copperfield (c1911), The Pickwick Papers (c1912), The Old Curiosity Shop (c1913). He did the illustrations on the cover and in Bernard Darwin’s  golf book  “Hamish McDuff”.  Reynolds succeeded as the Art Editor for Punch. He was also a prolific watercolor painter and was a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colors from 1903.

This piece, titled "Defeated Player in Club Final," contains the handwritten caption: 

"Isn't it dreadful Burgess-fancy being beaten 8 and 7..I shall never be able to lift up my head again.

Well...you done it in the match alright"
