Starting in 1978, Merion hosted one of the premier amateur golf tournaments in the country - the Hugh Wilson Invitational, which was named after Merion's famed architect Hugh Wilson. Offered here is the actual winner's gold medal from the 1998 Merion Golf Club Hugh Wilson Invitational, which was won by David Eger.
Dave Eger's golf history is very interesting. He has managed to switch between being an amateur and a professional multiple times, and has victories including 1988 US Mid Amateur and 1991 North & South Amateur, as well as two victories on the Champions Tour. Before joining the Champions Tour (the 2nd time Eger turned Professional), he competed in, and won, the Hugh Wilson Invitational at Merion Golf Club.
