Very few pieces of quality Pine Valley memorabilia are ever offered for sale, but presented here is the rare opportunity to obtain a great early Pine Valley hand colored map. Long before GPS mapping systems, golf courses relied on aerial photography and artist drawings to obtain a map of their course. In 1954, Pine Valley Golf Club employed a gentleman named George Cooper Rudolph to do just that - provide them with a drawing of the course's layout. Now, over 60 years later, the map looks amazingly rudimentary, but it was the best map of the famed course they had at the time.
Original prints of Rudolph's Pine Valley map are scarce - the last print we sold had water staining and still went for over $1,600. But offered here is not one of Rudolph's mass produced prints, but a hand colored original by Rudolph himself. The 2nd photo shows the back of this print - which really shows the hand coloring work. The back is also handwritten in what we presume if Rudolph's own hand: "Reproduction of the print is forbidden without the permission of the artist, George Cooper Rudolph."
20" x 29", hand colored, 1954.
