Offered here is one of the finest personally-used golf clubs that we have ever offered - Francis Ouimet's personal Tom Stewart 3 iron.

Tom Stewart of St Andrews was the greatest clubmaker of his era. In truth, his clubmaking may've spanned two eras. He was the preferred cleek maker for Old Tom Morris around the turn of the century, and was later personally involved in making clubs in the 1920s and 30s for two of the biggest names in the game - Francis Ouimet and Bobby Jones.

Offered here is one of the only known "Francis Ouimet" stamped Tom Stewart irons that has ever surfaced. Ouimet was an amateur, so commercially produced items featuring his name were strictly prohibited and therefore never manufactured in Ouimet's lifetime. Ouimet irons such as this were unquestionably produced for Ouimet himself. In his entire career, Tom Stewart is only known to have used script stamps for the personal models of two amateurs, Bobby Jones and Francis Ouimet (See page 290, Thomas Stewart Jr. Golf Cleek and Iron Maker by Ralph Livingston III).

Collecting actual used clubs from early Champion golfers can be a frustrating endeavor. Few purported used clubs from the game's early greats exist. Offered here is certainly one of the finest. 3 iron, 38 1/2".
