Circa 1916 painting of St. Andrews Golf Club (NY) by William Rudolf O'Donovan (1844-1920). A very early painting of one of the first golf clubs in America. O'Donovan served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War, yet is best known for his art in New York City in the late 19th and early 20th century. Just as our place is unique in...history...we may expect the same of our art, which is the last and highest expression of human aspirations.” William Rudolf O’Donovan, New York Times, May 1899.

Gouache on board. 12” x 9” in a gold gilt period frame to an overall size of 12 1/2" x 15 1/2". Signed and dated by O'Donovan in lower left, "St Andrews" written on lower right.
