Sam Snead famously carded the first ever 59 in a professional golf tournament. The record books cite Al Geiberger as "Mr. 59" because Snead's 59 came at the unofficial The Greenbrier Open in 1959. Nevertheless, Snead's 59 was an extraordinary achievement. Snead even received a telegram from Queen Elizabeth the next day.

Offered here is a scrapbook from Sam Snead's historic 59 in 1959. We must admit, when we first saw the scorecard on this scrapbook it had us scratching our heads. It can't be the original scorecard, can it? It's filled out in pen, which would be unusual. But then again, it's far too detailed and sloppy for a typical scorecard filled out later to commemorate a round. Also included with this original Sam Snead scorecard is a Greenbrier staff ticket from the 1959 Greenbrier Open, as well as newspaper clippings from the event. So possibly Snead filled out some extra scorecards immediately following the event for friends or The Greenbrier? Again, we can't be certain, but this scrapbook page is a rare first hand glimpse at one of golf's great achievements. The scrapbook page measures 12" x 12".
